Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s fake NPP comment is an irresponsible statement – Freddy Blay

The former chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddy Blay, has taken a swipe at Prof. Frimpong-Boateng regarding his recent comments about the party (NPP).

The former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, in a television interview, described the party as “fake” and questioned its internal democratic credentials.

Meanwhile, the NPP has begun formal processes to expel the former minister from the party.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken “due notice” of remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, 12 January 2026, during which he openly stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.

According to the statement, the former minister also made what the party described as “disparaging remarks” about the NPP and alleged that the 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favor of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

Responding to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s remarks in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Mr. Blay disagreed with the former minister.

“I disagree with him; it is outrageous to talk about the party being fake. I have a lot of respect for Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, but if indeed that is what he said, maybe he didn’t say so; that would be a question for the disciplinary committee. I consider his opinion as very irresponsible. The party is not a fake party.” He said.
