Galamsey Crackdown: NAIMOS confirms all seized excavators and weapons are secure

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has reassured the public that all excavators seized during its anti-illegal mining operations across Ghana are fully accounted for and securely stored.

The statement comes amid growing public interest and scrutiny over the handling of equipment confiscated from illegal mining sites, with concerns raised about potential misuse, disappearance, or lack of transparency.

At an editors’ forum on Wednesday, March 25, NAIMOS Secretary Dominic Buah emphasized that the secretariat has maintained strict oversight over all machinery retrieved during its operations.

He explained that the excavators, which are central to illegal mining activities, have been secured at designated locations under the secretariat’s supervision, pending further directives from the government.

Buah also noted that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will play a key role in accounting for the seized equipment and determining the next steps in line with government policy and legal procedures.

“Every excavator seized by NAIMOS is intact. The Ministry of Lands will render an account, and the government will make a decision on what to do, but NAIMOS has them safely at various locations,” he said.

He added that seized weapons are also intact and documented, with the Small Arms Commission and the Ministry overseeing their proper disposal.
