President Mahama swears in news National APRM Governing Council

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to transparency and good governance, emphasising the country’s readiness to undergo a comprehensive peer review process.

He described the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) as a critical tool for assessing progress in governance reforms and guiding future interventions.

The President made these remarks following the swearing-in of members of the National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM-GC).

President Mahama highlighted that the new Council will lead Ghana’s second-generation review next week on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“We are ready to participate fully and to lead this process,” he affirmed.

The newly sworn-in Governing Council is chaired by Ladyship Professor Akua Kuenyehia.

In brief remarks, Professor Kuenyehia expressed gratitude to the President and pledged the Council’s commitment to uphold transparency and the independence of governance institutions.

Other Council members include Dr Joseph Whittal, Chairman of the National Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ); Joseph Obeng; David Ofosu-Dorte; and Cornelia Amoah.
