KT Hammond’s Election Petition Dismissed, ¢60,000 Fine Imposed

The Obuasi High Court has dismissed the election petition filed by former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, KT Hammond, against the current MP, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.

Delivering the ruling, presiding judge Justice Fredrick Kwabena Twumasi fined Mr. Hammond ¢60,000 for what the court described as a waste of both judicial time and that of the defendant.

KT Hammond lost the 2024 parliamentary election to Dorani by a margin of 954 votes. The NDC’s Dorani polled 14,229 votes, while Hammond, running on the ticket of the NPP, secured 13,275 votes.

Unwilling to accept the outcome, Hammond filed a petition on January 15, 2025, challenging the results. However, after failing to appear in court on three consecutive occasions, the court proceeded to dismiss the case on August 19, 2025.

Reacting to the ruling in an interview, Dorani urged Hammond to put politics aside and consider joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that Hammond’s late parents were sympathisers of the party.
