I’ll organize all pastors to fight against 2024 polls if Akufo-Addo fails to sign Anti-LGBTQI Bill, says Rev. Minister

In Ghana, the proposed Anti-LGBTQI Bill has ignited a fierce debate and raised significant concerns regarding human rights, religious beliefs, and political implications.

President Akufo-Addo’s decision not to assent to the bill, despite its passage by parliament, has sparked numerous concerns from religious bodies and traditional leaders.

In response to President Akufo-Addo’s stance, Rev.  Emmanuel Boakye, the Country Director of Awsome Bible College in Kumasi and a prominent religious figure, has voiced his concerns about the Anti-LGBTQI Bill. He has highlighted potential consequences if the bill is not promptly signed into law.

During a press conference over the weekend, Rev. Boakye emphasized that homosexuality in Ghanaian Christian society is considered an abomination and a threat to both Christianity and various Ghanaian traditions.

He stated that religious leaders will not stand idly by while such abominable acts persist. Pastors in Ghana are prepared to take all necessary actions to force President Akufo-Addo to sign the Anti-LGBTQI Bill.

Rev. Boakye warned that if President Akufo-Addo does not sign the bill immediately, he will mobilize all religious leaders to prevent the upcoming 2024 elections from taking place.

“President Nana Akufo-Addo has failed to sign the Anti-LGBTQI Bill into law, and none of his NPP folks are willing to speak for the bill.

The president has been advised by chiefs, religious institutions and their regulatory bodies yet, he is unwilling to sign the Anti-LGBTQI Bill.”
“Akufo-Addo must sign the Anti-LGBTQI Bill with immediate effect else all men of God in the country will team up against the election 2024. We’ll not sit and watch for him and his NPP government to take decisions that will bring the wrath of God upon Ghana.” Rev Boakye explicitly stated.
