‘Ghana is crying for NPP’s bold, competent leadership’ – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has declared his readiness to appear before Parliament’s Privileges Committee following a request for his referral over comments relating to alleged recruitment irregularities in the security services.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Afenyo-Markin responded after the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, asked the Speaker to refer him to the committee. The request stems from claims made by the Minority concerning recruitment in the security agencies, which reportedly involve a senior government official.

Addressing the minister directly, Afenyo-Markin suggested that both of them were aware of the issues at stake but that the minister had acted otherwise. He insisted that the referral should proceed and called for the hearing to be made public.

“Honourable Minister of the Interior, I am not too sure you want us to pursue this matter. I repeat because you and I know what we know. Let the referral be made. Let there be a public hearing,” he said.

He further indicated his willingness to cooperate fully with the process, urging the Speaker to exercise discretion in favour of transparency.

“Mr Speaker, you have the wisdom to exercise the discretion. I will avail myself should you exercise that discretion to a public hearing and then the matter can then be brought to a peaceful rest,” he added.

The Privileges Committee is expected to review the matter and determine whether a public hearing will be held, as well as any subsequent action.
