The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has pledged to personally finance the reconstruction of the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which was ravaged by a fire on March 21, 2025.

The commitment, however, is contingent upon approval from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the relevant city authorities in Kumasi.

During a visit to the devastated site, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture donated GH¢300,000 in cash to support traders whose shops and properties were destroyed in the blaze. Many of the affected traders have been left struggling to restart their businesses following the disaster.

Hon. Acheampong expressed concern over makeshift structures some traders have begun to erect in an effort to resume operations, describing them as weak and unsafe. He emphasized the need for a more permanent and secure solution.

As part of the next steps, the MP stated that he intends to consult with the Asantehene—who is currently outside the country—as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister and local government officials, to seek formal approval for the rebuilding initiative.
“Coming here today, you will see that they have started building, but the structures are very weak.

“I want to engage the Otumfuo, and if he permits, and the assembly permits, we want to rebuild this structure for them in 12 months. We will put in very strong infrastructure, clean the front, and put up stores so traders can have some normalcy to their lives,” he added.
