Vice President Opoku-Agyemang in Luanda for AU-EU Summit
Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has arrived in Luanda, Angola, to attend the Seventh African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Summit.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President will present Ghana’s national statement, highlighting the country’s priorities in economic stability, job creation, food security, climate action, peace and security, and value-chain development.
The two-day Summit, opening on November 24, is themed “Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism.” It marks 25 years of AU-EU partnership and coincides with the 50th independence anniversary of Angola and several other African nations.
The meeting will be co-chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will represent the EU, while the AU delegation will be led by African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
Throughout the Summit, leaders will explore ways to deepen cooperation in areas such as peace, security, governance, multilateralism, prosperity, migration, and mobility.
The Summit will conclude with a joint declaration reaffirming a stronger, more balanced and forward-looking AU-EU partnership.
She is expected to return to Accra on Wednesday, November 26.
