Trucks carrying Hyundai Van, 1,000 bags of cement catch fire at Buipe

Two trucks transporting a Hyundai van and 1,000 bags of cement were gutted by fire at Buipe in the early hours of Sunday, February 22, 2026, following a collision involving a stationary trailer.

The incident, which occurred around 5:35 a.m., involved a flat body trailer loaded with cement and a low bed truck carrying the Hyundai van.

Eyewitnesses and preliminary reports indicate that the low bed truck attempted to overtake when it collided with a broken-down trailer parked along the road, sparking a blaze that quickly engulfed all three vehicles.

Firefighters from the Buipe Fire Station responded promptly, arriving within minutes to find the vehicles heavily ablaze. Using water and foam concentrate, the crew brought the fire under control, preventing further destruction.

No casualties were reported. However, some of the 1,000 bags of cement were destroyed, and the head compartments and side wheels of the affected vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The Ghana National Fire Service credited its quick response for averting a more devastating outcome.

The Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu and Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, visited the scene to commiserate with victims and commend the firefighters for their swift action.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly when approaching stationary or broken-down vehicles, to prevent similar incidents.
