Swedru School of Business (SWEBUS) has rendered an unreserved apology following the circulation of a viral video showing an assault involving some of its students and a student of Obrachire Senior High School.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Management, Staff and Students of SWEBUS addressed what they described as a disturbing incident captured on social media, which depicts a confrontation between students from the two institutions.
The school expressed deep concern over the development, describing the incident as unfortunate and troubling.
According to the statement, the conduct displayed in the video does not reflect the institution’s core values, discipline or standards. Management stressed that the behaviour violates the school’s Code of Conduct as well as regulations of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“As an institution committed to academic excellence, character development and responsible citizenship, we unequivocally condemn this act,” the statement emphasised, adding that the school does not tolerate violence or any conduct that undermines the safety and dignity of others.
The school extended an unqualified apology to stakeholders, including the GES Headquarters, the Central Regional Directorate of Education, the Agona West Municipal Directorate of Education, alumni, the management, staff and students of Obrachire Senior High School, the affected student and family, parents and the general public.
Management further disclosed that it is cooperating with security and law enforcement agencies. The students involved, it said, are currently assisting authorities with investigations.
The statement assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken in line with the outcome of the investigations.
Beyond sanctions, the school pledged to strengthen its internal systems to prevent a recurrence. It indicated that guidance and counselling, discipline enforcement and character education programmes would be intensified to promote respect, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among students.
Management appealed for calm and urged the public to allow due process to take its course, reaffirming the school’s commitment to maintaining a safe, disciplined and supportive learning environment.
