A mobile money (MoMo) agent was tragically killed on Monday, April 28, during an armed robbery at Gbagblakope, near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao, located in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

The victim, identified as Christopher Ahordo and popularly known in the area as “Colombo,” was reportedly closing his mobile money shop around 6:15 p.m. when two unidentified armed men attacked him.

The assailants, dressed in long robes with their faces concealed and armed with pump-action guns, confronted Colombo as he prepared to end his day—an unusually late closing time for him, as he typically shut his business by 5:00 p.m.

According to eyewitness accounts, the robbers seized a bag believed to contain money. As they fled the scene, one of the gunmen fired at Colombo, striking him in the left side of his chest. He died instantly.

Residents said they were unable to render assistance as the attackers fired shots indiscriminately while escaping into nearby bushes.

The victim’s body was later retrieved by community members and transported to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital morgue. The incident has been reported to the municipal police, who have since launched an investigation into the robbery and fatal shooting.

This tragic event adds to a troubling rise in mobile money-related robberies across the country. In recent months, several such incidents—some resulting in fatalities—have been reported, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
