John Abdulai Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, has voiced his disapproval of Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s handling of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

The Akufo-Addo, Bawumia-led government introduced the E-Levy in the 2022 budget as a means of generating additional revenue to support critical projects and enhance services in the telecommunications industry. However, the government later reduced the levy rate from the initial 1.5 percent to 1 percent, effective January 2023.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged to eliminate the controversial E-Levy on mobile transactions by March 2025 if elected as president.

In a discussion with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the former Energy Minister expressed his belief that if Bawumia cannot convince Akufo-Addo to abolish the E-Levy, then he should strive for the presidency.

According to him, the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, supported the E-levy.
