Human Trafficking, Child Labour Still Major Threats — Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee

Human trafficking and child labour remain serious threats to the dignity, safety, and future of many citizens, particularly women and children, Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Anim Yaw Ernest, has stated.

He made the remarks at a capacity-building workshop on combating human trafficking organised by the International Justice Mission in partnership with the Human Rights Committee of the Parliament of Ghana.

The workshop aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills, and coordination mechanisms of key stakeholders involved in addressing human trafficking.

In his address, Hon. Anim Yaw Ernest underscored the urgent need for sustained and coordinated efforts to tackle human trafficking and child labour, describing them as grave violations of human rights that continue to endanger vulnerable persons.

He reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to enhancing its legislative and oversight responsibilities to protect victims and decisively combat the menace.

According to him, Parliament remains determined to work collaboratively with relevant institutions and partners to ensure stronger enforcement mechanisms and improved protection systems for affected individuals.
