GoldBod and National Security arrest foreigners attempting to smuggle gold

The Ghana Gold Board, in collaboration with National Security, has arrested three Indian nationals in connection with illegal gold trading activities, raising the total number of foreign nationals arrested in recent weeks to six.

The latest arrests took place in Anyinam, a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana, according to police reports.

During the operation, authorities seized several items, including gold bars, large sums of cash, and money-counting machines, all believed to be linked to the illicit gold trade.

This development follows an earlier arrest on April 29, 2025, involving three other Indian nationals. That incident occurred just before the Ghana Gold Board officially directed all foreign nationals to exit the country’s gold trading sector.

Speaking on the matter, the Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Gold Board, Prince Minkah, confirmed that the newly arrested individuals will be arraigned and prosecuted in accordance with Ghanaian law.

“These arrests underscore our commitment to sanitising the gold trading industry and ensuring that all operations are conducted within the legal framework,” he stated.

The Ghana Gold Board and National Security say they are intensifying efforts to clamp down on illegal activities in the mining and gold trading sectors, particularly involving foreign nationals.
