Voting is underway across all 113 polling stations in the Ayawaso East Constituency as the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) conducts a parliamentary by-election.
Five candidates are vying for the seat, including former Ghana High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, who is representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The other contenders are Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), independent candidate Umaru Sanda Muhammed—who recently resigned from the NDC—as well as Ibrahim Iddrisu and David Kannor.
According to the EC, a total of 49,966 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots. Polls opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 5:00 p.m.
The by-election was triggered by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away in January while receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, leaving the parliamentary seat vacant.
