The host of the social intervention program Oyerepa Afutuo, Eunnice Naa Northey, popularly known as Auntie Naa, has called on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to assist a young boy who was named in his honour.
Madame Mercy Boateng, a resident of Gyenase, appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo to share the challenges she and her family are currently facing. She explained that her husband has neglected her and their seven children, leaving them to fend for themselves.
“My husband called me one day and told me he could not take care of their education. Since then, he has decided not to provide for us,” Madame Mercy said.
She added that one of her daughters, a nursing trainee, had to find a job to fund her own education, while several of her other children have completed Senior High School but are unable to continue their studies due to lack of support.
During the interview, Madame Boatemaa revealed that one of her sons is named Bawumia, after the former Vice President.
“I named my son Bawumia. I decided to name him after Dr. Bawumia when I was pregnant,” she said.
Upon hearing the story of the woman, who sells vegetables to take care of her seven children, Auntie Naa appealed to Dr. Bawumia to come to the family’s aid.
“This woman deserves commendation. Dr. Bawumia can consider giving his namesake a scholarship. We are appealing to you to provide support for your namesake,” she said.
