Arrest of TikTokers needless amid mourning – NPP General Secretary

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua, has taken a swipe at the current administration over the arrest of two TikTok users accused of threatening the lives of President John Dramani Mahama, the First Lady, and the Vice President.

“I find it unbelievable that in the middle of this mourning period, the government has time to engage in such frivolities by targeting these young people,” he said in an interview on Okay FM.

Kodua argued that the nation’s focus should be on pressing matters, especially in the wake of recent tragedies.

It would be recalled that a tanker lost control and crashed head-on into a Ford Transit bus carrying church youth returning from a congress, killing 16 instantly at Obogu a few weeks ago.

“And now, we are also mourning the victims of the recent helicopter crash. These are the issues we should be addressing to protect lives and build a better future,” he stated.

He stressed that instead of tackling such challenges, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was “busy arresting people left and right.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the arrests stem from a viral TikTok video in which an individual is heard issuing threats against the President and the First Lady.

According to police, the widely circulated video contains comments deemed to be a security threat.

“So far, two people, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, are in police custody assisting the ongoing investigation, while efforts are underway to get other persons believed to be connected to the video to assist the investigation,” authorities said.
