Akufo-Addo denies seeking meeting with President Mahama over Ken Ofori-Atta case

The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted claims that he is seeking a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama to secure assurances for the safe passage of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The clarification comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Mr. Ofori-Atta and several anti-graft agencies, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former president’s office described the reports as entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.

“The office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama,” the statement said.

The office reaffirmed that the former president remains a firm supporter of democratic principles and the rule of law. While he maintains concern for Mr. Ofori-Atta due to familial ties and his service during the Akufo-Addo administration, the statement clarified that this concern does not extend to interfering with legal processes.

“Hopefully, this sets the record straight on the matter,” the statement concluded.
