Attack on Court and Police Station: Sene West MP Appeals to Traditional Leaders to Advise the Youth
The Member of Parliament for Sene West, Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, has appealed to traditional leaders in the district to caution and guide the youth against acts of violence, vandalism, and the unlawful seizure of state property, particularly facilities belonging to the courts and the police.
Hon. Twumasi made the call during the celebration of this year’s Fofie Festival at Kwame Danso, where he expressed deep concern over recent disturbances in the district involving attacks on public institutions.
According to reports, a group of youth allegedly besieged the premises of the Kwame Danso District Court and the local police station in an attempt to free one of their colleagues who had been remanded in custody for two months by a judge. The suspect was reportedly charged after allegedly destroying a structure belonging to a Fulani herdsman on his farmland.
The MP condemned the actions, describing them as unlawful and detrimental to peace and development in the area. He stressed that grievances must be addressed through lawful means rather than resorting to mob action and attacks on state institutions.
Hon. Twumasi further outlined several ongoing and planned development projects in the Sene West Constituency, warning that persistent acts of violence and lawlessness could discourage investors and derail development efforts.
“If such actions continue, it will affect development and scare away projects meant to improve the lives of our people,” he cautioned.
He therefore urged traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and parents to play active roles in educating the youth on the importance of peace, respect for the rule of law, and the protection of public property.
The MP concluded by calling on residents of the district to work together with security agencies to maintain law and order, emphasising that sustained peace is essential for development and progress in the Sene West District.
