50 Nigerians arrested over cybercrime and human trafficking

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested approximately 50 Nigerian nationals in a targeted dawn operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The operation, carried out on Thursday, July 24, 2025, followed credible intelligence on suspected human trafficking and cybercrime activities in the area.

A statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration M. Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs at GIS, confirmed the arrests and provided details of the coordinated operation.

“The Ghana Immigration Service in the early hours of today, July 24, 2025, conducted a special operation at McCarthy Hills in the Ga South Municipality. The operation was based on intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,” the statement said.

Among those apprehended was the landlord of the apartment complex believed to have served as the base for the suspected criminal operations. Authorities suspect the location was being used to house and control individuals who had been coerced into cybercrime schemes.

The GIS indicated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the human trafficking and cyber fraud network and to identify all individuals involved. The service assured the public that further details will be shared as the inquiry progresses.

The latest operation highlights the GIS’s continued efforts to combat transnational crimes and protect the country’s security and digital integrity.
