A devastating accident has occurred at Atwedie near Konongo on the Kumasi–Accra Highway, leaving five people feared dead and eleven others severely injured.
The accident involved a Sprinter bus with registration number GR 6626-22, which rammed into a stationary tipper truck on the highway.
Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday, October 25, 2025.
According to them, the incident happened when the Sprinter bus was negotiating a curve and suddenly came upon the parked tipper truck, but was unable to avoid a collision, resulting in the fatal impact.
A witness at the scene, speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, described the harrowing details of the accident.
“Two passengers who were seated at the front were trapped in the vehicle following the accident. It took fire officers about two hours to rescue them,” the witness said.
“Although the deaths have not been confirmed by experts, I am afraid the five I saw may not survive.”
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) played a crucial role in rescuing passengers trapped in the wreckage.
The victims have been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while security officials were at the scene controlling traffic at the time of filing this report.
