2024 Polls: Endorsing Bawumia has created a big blot on your political career – Alan fumes at Kufour

The presidential candidate of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has expressed his disapproval of former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During an interview with a group of journalists on Sunday, November 17, Kufuor encouraged Ghanaians to rally behind Dr. Bawumia in the December polls, portraying him as the perfect candidate to lead the nation.

“Given the current global circumstances, I firmly believe Ghana’s economy will improve significantly if Bawumia is elected as President. With divine guidance, he can fulfill this promise. I encourage everyone to back his candidacy,” Kufuor stated.

However, in a sharp response on Oyerepa Breakfast Time on Monday, November 18, Mr. Kyerematen expressed disappointment with Kufuor’s remarks, arguing that they compromise the neutrality expected of a statesman.

“Kufuor is my uncle, and I respect him deeply, but his actions have tarnished his political legacy. Why would someone of his stature engage in such partisan politics? His endorsement has led to widespread criticism and insults, which could harm his reputation,” he said.

The leader of the Movement for Change, who parted ways with the NPP to form his own party, cautioned that Kufuor’s participation in political endorsements could have significant consequences.

“He’s treading on dangerous ground, and he needs to reconsider his actions. He knows what he’s doing.”
